Succession and Watchmen aren't in the running (And considering Succession hasn't started filming season 3, most likely the show isn't going to be eligible for the next year Emmy Awards) they already were eligible for this past winter’s other awards.

That leaves room for shows that have had lots of buzz, as well as the most anticipated shows of fall - including shows that would have been Emmy 2020 contenders but had to be pushed back due to COVID-19-related production delays.

Topping that list is FX’s “Fargo,” now in Season 4. Without Watchmen in the competition the show has a good chance at winning major awards, including next year's Emmys. Also expect nods for the star Chris Rock and the cast of supporting actors ( Jessie Buckley, Jason Schwartzman, Ben Whishaw and Timothy Olyphant) could be contenders too.

Showtime's "The Comey Rule" could be a contender, depending on how people are feeling after this year's election. Jeff Daniels as Comey and Brendan Gleeson as Trump could be contenders too.

Nichole Kidman and David E Kelley's "The Undoing" for HBO and FX on Hulu "A teacher" (starring Kate Mara) could give the show and actors some nods.

Early reviews for HBO drama “We Are Who We Are” are strong, and although break-out stars Jack Dylan Grazer and Jordan Kristine Seamón are likely too young and too green for recognition just yet, supporting cast including Chloë Sevigny and Kid Kudi could be in the mix.

Amazon Prime Video has Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” anthology, including “Lovers Rock” and “Mangrove,” making waves at the New York Film Festival.

And then there’s HBO’s “I May Destroy You” and creator-star Michaela Coel. Heartbreaking, stunning, beautiful - there are not enough adjectives to describe this summer series, which hopefully will be remembered by Emmy voters next year, but first up could get plenty of attention at the Globes, SAG, WGA and more.
