Sandra Oh wore a custom royal purple bomber jacket by LA brand, KORELIMITED. It was created by designer Matthew Kim, who has also done a line of T-shirts and hoodies to support Black Lives Matter.

Oh spoke with British Vogue about why she chose the piece to wear at the Emmy’s:

“It’s in a royal purple colour - which is a super Korean colour and brings a certain mindset for me - and it says ‘Black Lives Are Precious’ in Korean writing, because the literal translation of Black Lives Matter is impossible in Korean.”

Oh states that the characters have to be read top to bottom, right to left, it’s a traditional way of writing Korean script, and the are dashes or taegukgi, lifted from the Korean flag. She says the Korean flag represents “celestial bodies and the natural elements and all of that good stuff.” On the right sleeve is a mugunghwa, (hibiscus), the national flower of Korea.

The brand KORE stands for Keepin’ Our Roots Eternal. KORELIMITED has created a set number of jackets and masks. A part of the proceeds from the sale of these bombers will go towards Campaign Zero and Black Girls Code, an organization selected by Oh.
