The iconic advocate for women's rights, gender equality, and human rights in general passed away today. Celebs reacting as they hear the news below (under the cut)
Breaking News: Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died. The second woman to serve on the Supreme Court, she had powerful opinions that made her a cultural icon. She was 87. https://t.co/9oJ760Lrif - The New York Times (@nytimes) September 18, 2020
- Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on Friday of “complications of metastatic pancreas cancer,” the Supreme Court announced.
- The development will give President Trump 45 the opportunity to name her successor, and Senate Republicans have promised to try to fill the vacancy even in the waning days of his first term.
- The replacement of Justice Ginsburg, the leader of the court’s four-member liberal wing, could transform the court into a profoundly conservative institution, one in which Republican appointees would outnumber Democratic ones six to three.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the kind of scholar and patriot you get excited about explaining to your kids. The kind of person who you say “who knows, one day you could be HER”. I hope you rest well, RBG, you must have been tired from changing the world. - Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling) September 19, 2020

She was my hero. I never got to meet her.
But I loved her and the way she moved through this world with such strength and grace and conviction.
Her rest is earned. It is our turn to fight. - kerry washington (@kerrywashington) September 19, 2020
The way to honor her life and her legacy is to respect her dying wish, which was to ask that her seat not be filled until a new president is sworn in.
