Payne says: When she was 15 yrs old (1988) he didn’t know her then, and he was still a film student at UCLA (1984-1990)

In addition to refuting specific details, Payne also says he met McGowan in 1991, when he directed a comic short for the Playboy channel. McGowan auditioned for a role, which required her to be of age. Payne says she didn’t get the part, but she left her number at reception for him to call her. He did call her, they dated a few times, ended cordially.
