Until recently she had a track record of mid-budget films that were very profitable (Age of Adaline, Simple Favor, Shallows).

She is probably really easy for the director and studio to work with. 9 times out of 10 an actor gets work because they are easy to deal with on set. If they aren't some huge name who will guarantee sales, it's due to ease of working environment. That's really why so many shitty actors work so much, not because they are good, but because they come to work, do their job and don't make anyone's life difficult
