It makes me so angry that a lot of the time cancer isn't detected until it's spread/in the later stages when so much of treatment seems dependent on early detection. I wish we had yearly cancer screenings for everyone for at least some types.

i agree. i don't think you can even get free breast cancer mammograms here until you're 50, and even then its only every 3 years.

Same. I know a lot of biotech companies are now moving towards early detection, but unless we make it a standard in medicine I doubt it will be affordable.

Me too, my partner's mum was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer earlier this year, and then died 4 days later from it, it was crazy crazy fast. She didn't have any noticable side effects until then, legit was casually getting lunch with her friends a few days before. If there was a yearly screening or something it could've been caught a long time ago and she might have had a chance.

Omg that's horrible, I'm so sorry. It's so frustrating that a lot of the time there are no symptoms until it's advanced, or the symptoms are so generic that they're attributed to something else. I've known several people the past few years who have been diagnosed with stage four because their symptoms were assumed to be something else, it's heartbreaking.

yeah it was the ost surreal unpleasant shit that's ever happened to us tbh, and because of covid my partner and the rest of his family couldn't visit or anything. As advanced as modern medicine is in some areas, it really relies on guess work ultimately, most of our symptoms could be a a basic head or stomach ache, but also could be about to kill us!

Routine checks are so important, especially if there's any family history, and with age. My first pap smear caught some dodgy cells which could've become cervical cancer in 10 - 30 years, I'm so grateful for that routine check that helped stop (hopefully lol) that from happening.

My mum had blood tests on a regular bc she had survived two cases of cancer within 3 years. Even though she felt something was wrong, every doctor she went to told her that there was nothing to worry about.
Turns out there was a new tumor that had already spread to other regions. She didn't survive this time.

I'm so sorry that this happened to your mum and I'm sorry for your loss. Both my parents' cancer was misdiagnosed for months and both had to be rushed into hospital for emergency surgery. My condolences to you xxx
