I also think it's ugly, but it encapsulates that time period and adds to her legend. It is an iconic dress. The only person who could wear a gown like that is a princess.

it was the inspiration for all the other ugly 80s dresses! on its own it wasn't nearly as aggressively 80s trendy, I imagine. it was just a very ostentatious dress lol

Not only is the gown itself ugly as sin but they really let the woman, whom they thought would be the future queen, go out in a gown that wrinkly. Messy.
