August 1, 2020 Legal problems between Mexican TV network, Televisa and late Mexican comedian, Roberto Gómez Bolaños’ estate, have caused that all the shows created by him to stop being shown on televisions and streaming sites around the world.
The blocked shows include “el chapulín colorado”, “el chavo del 8” & “Chespirito”, among others, over disputes for the intellectual property rights of said shows. Even though these shows were originally created in the 70’s, they are still massively popular all over Latin America and even in some other countries, spanning over 1,300 episodes between them, creating iconic characters and turning the actors into household names.
They were last transmitted worldwide on July 31.
Roberto Gómez Fernán, son of Roberto Gómez Bolaños and Florinda Meza, actress of doña Florinda, la Popis & la Chimoltrufia, have released statements on their feelings over these events, expressing sadness and dismay, claiming this behavior is an aggression to people during these times were fun is much needed.
