Despite our united disdain for Kanye, this is not the post to weaponize or downplay mental illness if he is in fact going through an episode or use this post to make ableist comments. I know this won't apply to the majority to you, but still.

He definitely needs people who truly care for him and support him around. The family he married into, unfortunately takes your weakness and makes it into a storyline.

Yeah, that's how I feel. Even if he doesn't take his meds, I really wished his family intervened. They seem complicit just to let him not receive adequate care regardless of his non-compliance, even if he is old enough to make decisions for himself. They have different priorities. I wish well-being was one of them for everyone in the family. Could you just imagine the family system if they took care of their well-being?

I just don't want people making ableist comments, period, or comments about how people with mental illness cannot work in positions of power. He is a shitty person who happens to have mental illness, and I'm tired of people saying that he is an asshole BECAUSE he has a mental illness.

I hope he receives support- actual support, when he starts to feel unwell. It almost seems like the family is just like "oh, you good? Good, let's never mention it again." I am in no way saying he has to take medications- many people do not like the side effects and there are alternative ways to manage symptoms, triggers and etc with the proper support and attention given to your needs and self care is a huge one here. Not self-care of getting a massage the kind of self care that involves getting enough sleep, eating a decent meal, brushing your teeth, etc. Mental illness needs more normalizing still and it's really frustrating.

how people with mental illness cannot work in positions of power

yea it makes me extra uncomfortable when people say that because it is actually used against mentally ill/autistic/people w cognitive disabilities to justify stuff like paying us sub minimum wage, not allowing us better positions in a job/to be promoted, completely dismissing our skills, automatically assume we are unreliable, etc.

its also used to deny parental rights, remove children from mothers (usually black/mothers of colour, especially indigenous)

sorry, i agree with your whole comment, basically.

it's also a cultural thing

in my hispanic family no one talked about mental illness. it was an unspoken forbidden topic.

i'll never forget a family member saying "depression son por los gringos who don't know how to be happy with their money"

I was like hello i'm not rich and hispanic and i'm still wack af

i hope that there will be changes in his family to finally step in and get him help

Thank you for this. I don't like making excuses for the man, but it's always been clear that he has not been mentally well, but has all the means and resources to do what he wants, and no one around him to keep him accountable or intervene. It's dangerous for him and others. I hope he one day is able ot get the help he needs.
