I mean...unpopular opinion on ONTD I guess but I enjoyed the book and movie so I'm excited for this and hope it focuses on '90s pop culture.

I'm currently on the last short story of Stephen King's "If It Bleeds" collection and doing re-reads of the HP and Hunger Games series. Next on my list is Such a Fun Age, and then probably Catch and Kill.

I've only seen the movie, and I don't remember hating it

I thought it was a decent adaptation! I liked the book better but not by a ton.

I cringed at the nerd-internet-gaming slang. I think it was a dubbing but the terms can't have been different in English. I mean, I understood everything but I just pictured someone else wanting to watch it just for fun and not understanding so much. It was made specifically for nerds.

In short, I was way too old for that movie, lol.

I enjoyed the movie too! I have the book, I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

I liked the book (while recognizing that the main character def had a full creep incel vibe) but the movie mostly removed one of the aspects I really enjoyed from the book which was how awful and dystopian the world had become.

The movie pissed me off taking Artemis’ facial mark out too. IDK why but that made me so mad lol

Yeah I mean the book definitely has its flaws, but I didn't hate it.

I will join you. Maybe as a child of the 80's that why I loved it so much, but yeah, I LOVED the book and despite the GOD-AWFUL trailer that completely mis-sold the film, the film did a wonderful job capturing the book. Loved it too.

Agreed! I’m an ‘85 baby so the references were a liiiittle before my time, especially some of the video-game ones, but I still am familiar enough with the era to have gotten most of it. I need the sequel to be ‘90s-themed tho 😂

I’ve only listened to the book but I really liked it. I don’t at all understand this weird, OTT attitude about it. I’ll be looking forward to the sequel.

When I first read it it was a good read, pretty much finished it in a sitting and was engaged throughout.

But it's the kind of book where as soon as you stop and start to think about it, the worse it gets. Its treatment of its characters (not just our main incel), it's relentless surface level "remember this?!", and what form of "geek culture" it's actually celebrating are making liking it after the initial read nigh impossible.

Although I will always cherish the moment I realized we were following the adventures of a bunch of what is essentially "fake geeks".

I was entertained by the book, but I also was into the 80s references. I was less into the movie, but I still don't mind it as mindless background sound.

Yeah to be fair I def don't think I would've enjoyed it nearly as much as I did if I wasn't familiar with a lot of that '80s pop culture.
