Whenever I find out I’m trending, I have to immediately check if I’m alive! Then, I try and see if there’s a constructive dialogue to have on Twitter. Often there isn’t, but today there really WAS. (Thread)

Her parents are two big deal artists/photographers iirc with connections to MYC art elite. She's rich and connected

yep, and that she won't acknowledge how she's where she is because of nepotism and wealth/class privilege means she has a shallow understanding of whiteness lbr

She's rich and her parents are well-connected. I believe they're friends with Judd Apatow, which is how he "discovered" her after she self-funded Tiny Furniture.

Yeah. It’s insulting for her to say she’s solely a case of “white privilege” when it’s much much deeper than that. But talking about class privilege makes white people even more uncomfortable than talking about white privilege so...

lmao god forbid we're already making white people deal with race issues now you wanna make them deal with class issues too? you're cruel and white people are tired

i feel like she pointed this out and hoped people wouldnt touch on the class privilege like she wants brownie points

it's actually smart for rich white ppl to focus on "white privilege" because like over 50% of the US is white so that "privilege" is shared by the majority of the population. their class privilege on the other hand? hmmmmm.

i mean, 61% of the US population is white (and that's excluding white latinos). so by saying the system was rigged "in favor of white people" she's telling us she had an advantage over 39% of the population which yes, it's a lot of people but she's still competing with the majority of the population, right?

but in fact, what's the percentage of US americans -- white or otherwise -- that were born into wealth, in new york city (the center of power) and went to super elite private schools their whole life (basically networking with other very wealth powerful ny people since they were in diapers)? it's an INFINITELY smaller pool of people, isn't it? so while it's true the system is rigged for white people, she was not even competing with average white people in the first place, was she?

Yes, she's like super high elite.

If she wasn't you would have never heard of her.

If you wanna really understand why she is the way she is, google her father's "art" (WARNING: it is very NSFW, involves a lot of "naive" style naked women, and it's super creepy)
