I read what happened this morning and was gobsmacked. RIP. Money cannot buy happiness and mental illness does not discriminate. It’s awful he felt this was his only option.

I get it, but honestly, money can help with a lot of it. Some people don’t seek out mental health services due to lack of awareness about low-cost/free options, insurance coverage, and more. Money doesn’t fix things, but it gives you access to so much more in life. That’s why we need to reform our systems.

I understand, it makes total sense. And I’m sorry, but your roommate is a jerk - trauma doesn’t need to be weighed against other people’s experiences. Nobody has the right to invalidate your pain, especially if they’re not a mental health professional. Who gains anything by doing that, especially after someone has shared something so painful with them?

Money can help with a lot of things, but you’re right, it can also silence others. I can’t speak to the cultural aspects of growing up rich, but I do remember some of the known “rich” kids feeling isolated sometimes because people couldn’t relate to them. I wish money didn’t have so much power over us.
