If this isn't my brother. I shouldn't be mean he's dealt with and is still dealing with stuff but he acts like everyone hates him and it's just not true lol

Lmaaaooo I'm 100% sure he think I'm a bitch. Even when I have a convo where I'm like "brother it's so exciting that you're going to have your own place soon. If you wanna pet cause I remember that you said that you wanted a cat you can try fostering first" and just zero reaction lol.

As a younger sibling, I hate to inform you, that even if you meant to be supportive, that example statement comes off so patronizing. It sounds like you are judging him for not having his own place already and saying he should foster first to make sure he can take care of an animal. I know you don’t mean it that way but as a younger sibling, that’s how our brains twist it.

He's an older sibling lol. But I see what you mean! And I appreciate you telling me that.

since he's older than you it sounds even more condescending lol

Haha I guess. I mean I didn't say it out of the blue. I fostered during quarantine for the first time and knew for sure that I wouldn't ever want a cat. I asked if he thought about getting a pet since he's going to have a ton of space now and he's mentioned wanting a cat before so I thought I'd share my experience.

He doesn't want a relationship with me and if it were just the two of us then I'd let it be. I put in the effort for years and would rather stop for my own sanity at this point. But he lives with my parents and my parents want us to look like we're trying, which usually relies on me talking because he won't. And then guess who gets the guilt trip 🙃

And yes, I have talked about all of this to my therapist lol.

I’ve had to work so hard on my victim complex and fighting those voices that are so clearly lying to you about so many things in life. It’s so realllll

First off I hope you're doing better. I've seen firsthand how it can affect family and friends and I wish the best for you dear <3

TBH, he needs to go back to therapy. Because he also is a hoarder so you know things aren't gunna get better lol

my brother is like this too...plus he is in the autistic spectrum so its even harder to try to make him understand that his lack of self awareness makes it really hard to talk to him without dumbing/watering down the subject matter.

Lol, this is a great comparison.

And sidenote MTR is such an under-rated gem of a movie. I ugly cry every time I watch it.

It was my daughter’s favourite for a couple of years when she was younger, but I think she just enjoyed seeing me blubbering through it. (Her favourite books when she was really little were The Velveteen Rabbit and The Selfish Giant because they always made me cry when I was reading them aloud to her and she loved patting me on the back to soothe me. She’s kind of a monster.)

Anyway, it’s not sad because of anything triggering - it’s just a really lovely film, and also has some very funny jokes. Definitely check it out!

I'm a big fan and think it's underrated but one of my favorite parts is one of the messages: that's it's ok to fail
