Yea I see people say cops get paid shit and it's like, where? They end up making good money and then can retire earlier than most people and with a pension to boot.

Apparently they make upwards of $60k where I live, but I'm not sure how much I trust that. My husband who is a teacher at a local college makes less and actually TEACHES criminal justice students (they're all terrible academically, too, go figure).

Yep I live in California and there was a thread on nextdoor about redistributing the police budget to other areas like education and housing (the OP avoided the word “defund” bc boomers were losing their shit) and people got SO pissed saying cops deserve to make MORE money than they already do. Like wtf? They make waaaay too much money here. Meanwhile everyone else aside from cops and Silicon Valley tech workers are struggling

Someone in my friend's nextdoor was saying a police sergeant told her personally that they have to pay for their uniforms, their arms, their ammo, with a very small allowance for equipment. Outright lies

They definitely make a whole lot less than that where I live. I think average pay is about 40k here. Granted, it's a low COL area but my husband makes double that as a lineman. Which pisses the public off since they're both city jobs and people around here think cops are heroes and put themselves in sooooo much danger! (which they don't, there's rarely anything dangerous happening around here)

Then to say "Tell an officer thank you" For what? I'll gladly tell that employee she tried to guilt trip thank you though.
