Having cancelled the in-person event for the first time in their 50-year history due to concerns over Covid-19, SDCC announced they'll be going virtual this year, on the same dates: July 22-26. And it'll be free. “For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe. Though stay-at-home conditions make this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community," said SDCC spokesperson David Glanzer.

If you purchased a badge for 2020, you can either request a refund via an email they'll supposedly send out, or else they'll transfer that badge to the 2021 convention.

From their website they plan to have:
-An online exhibit hall
-Panels/Presentations
-A masquerade
-Gaming
-Other activites

No further info has been released besides them tweeting today about press registration being open. Announcements will begin leading up to the event.

DC doesn't plan on participating at Comic-Con@Home though because they recently announced that they'll be doing their own virtual event. Scheduled for Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. PT, they're launching DC FanDome, a free global online event that will have announcements and other things about their various movies and shows including all the Berlanti stuff on the CW, their films, other shows, cartoons, comics, video games etc etc.

The way it's described is that they'll have six "different, fully-programmed areas inside the virtual DC FanDome":
-Hall of Heroes, where the panels, reveals, and special programming can be watched
-DC WatchVerse, more panels, screenings, and exclusive content
-DC YouVerse, fan-generated content
-DC InsideVerse, where publishers/creators/writers will be giving talks such as DC Publisher/CCO Jim Lee, President of DC-Based Film Production Walter Hamada, and Greg Berlanti
-DC KidsVerse is for younger fans
-DC FunVerse, merchandise, a comic book reader, shareables, and other things
