OP Note: I'm extremely mad at my undergrad alma mater's treatment of grad students.

As someone who has finished grad school twice, I would never ever do it again. It's grueling and so much academic bullshit. Not to mention, I was literally the ONLY black person and I dealt with a lot of white bullshit. I'm glad I did it though bc it's given me a dual career I have now but boy do grad schools treat their students like shit.

Now that I'm 35, I deeply wish I hadn't done a university degree and went into a trade instead.

I'm a little older than you but same! I wish I knew about our public transit agency jobs sooner bc apparently some ppl worked there straight out of HS and were able to retire in their early to mid 40s.

I'd be funnelled through expecting to go to uni all my life so yeah, I wish I could've saved a lot of time and money if I had gone straight to college & worked from there. I never realized there were so many options. i'm in my 30s now & finishing up a college program & the fact that I can get experience as a part of my program and having all this applied knowledge was a revelation. I wish I had thought about it more and given more options.

I don’t have a degree either (for reasons too messy to explain) and now I can’t attend uni either because I also have two small children, but I am doing a degree from Open University. I started last year, and it will probably take me longer than 3 years to finish, but I am glad I am doing it. I couldn’t decide what to study so I am doing an Open degree which lets you choose a few different modules and make a degree that caters to you. I am mostly doing courses related to Science because that is what I enjoy. Point is, look at an Open Degree and go for it!

I’m glad I have my BA and I’m grateful to not have any debt but I don’t think I can ever go to grad school. At this point in the world I can’t justify the taxation on my life lmao.

I only went to grad school because after an internship with the city of LA gave me actual career direction in working with non-profits on policy matters (because I basically yolo-ed my way through undergrad without thinking of what I was gonna do with my life oops) I was told in order to have a career in that field I needed a masters in public administration or social work and social work was less math. I was lucky I had a good experience at grad school but it's incredibly stressful and I was at a school that cost waaaaay too much (again oops).

I'm busy with my second bachelor and already eyeing a masters, but more because I enjoy learning than out of necessity.

And because over here you pay approx 2000 dollars a year, instead of 10.
