This is 100% the truth though.
A few years ago, I got into an argument with people from back home about systemic racism and representation. They also all "can't be racist. They have black friends". One of them was like, "I don't have to worry about the cops because I don't break the law..."
Which caused me to be like, "FUCK OFF. You have fucking drove drunk, 95% of the people in the area have..." which is honestly the god damn truth in small town middle america in the early 2000s and way before that. But people have rose colored glasses on when it comes to their own experiences. They think 1) they're good, law abiding citizens and 2) they are fine because they "treat the police with respect."

They really do need to hear it from "one of their own."

Ugh, I hate the "but my interactions with cops have all been great! Just be respectful!" and it's like "YEAH WHY IS THAT THO". When I got arrested for unpaid parking tickets a few years back, they put me in the back of the cruiser and then stood outside my car where they were gonna let my brother take it since it was not my vehicle but my mother's. At that time, alone in the cruiser, I realized I actually still had the keys in my pocket and not in my purse in the car as I had told them earlier ( ... )
