That pos definitely did it. I hate that they gave the mom amnesia bc what’s the point of her character development in the end if she just resets to before it happened? Cop out honestly.

I thought that she was just playing dumb. That she knew what she did but didn’t want to own up to it because they both survived and she didn’t want to get arrested for her actions. Similar to what Jacob was doing.

The book was less ambiguous and it pisses me off they decided to make it that the girl in Mexico survived. She died in the book making it obvious mom wasn't crazy. Apparently the decision was up to Jaeden(the actor who plays the boy) whether he did it so they went with that ending.

do you mean that one interview where Jaeden said that the director left it up to him to decide whether or not his character was guilty? I took that as it was up to him to play him guilty or not, not for him to decide the ending.... they would never leave something like that up to an actor.

Yes that's the one! I figured he had more control over it but maybe not. I don't know. It's bullshit either way.

idk i personally think this was a good choice. i love ambiguous endings where things are left up to the viewers to decide or imagine. had they gone with the book's ending and have the girl in mexico die and his mom finding blood on the shirt, it would have been too straightforward.

But it's a limited series. It's not coming back for another season, so I don't see why it couldn't have been wrapped up in a definitive way. It kind of feels like we watched 8 episodes of nothingness that ultimately led nowhere.

I guess we’re not doing spoiler cuts? Lol trueloveisrarex June 1 2020, 14:56:30 UTC
yes! Omg I don’t like that they changed the book ending because right up until the switch Laurie was the only character I had sympathy for because she was the only one who could see Jacob for who he really was and in a dark way I thought that it was only fair for her to do what she did especially after Jacob kept ruining her life with his actions

i don't think that he did. he's a twisted kid for sure but the fact that he had no blood on him is exculpatory enough.

I just don’t think any person would see what happened to that kid on the news and write fan fiction about the murder without being guilty idk

kids are into all sorts of twisted shit...that doesn't make them murderers. plus he had a sordid past with the victim. i can't tell you how many times i've fantasized about exacting revenge on my tormentors who bullied me on daily basis. then again, i didn't write any horror murder stories about them and post them online lol but still...anyhow you don't stab someone three times and walk away from it with zero blood splatter.
