It was rated... It got a bunch of critical acclaim. It was helmed by auteur Lena Dunham. That's what makes it overrated-- having the """credentials""" and not being good. Friends otoh, no one has ever said that it was supposed to be interesting or groundbreaking or shit your pants hilarious. Seems like most people know it's just mindless background noise TV.

Yeah, like Girls is definitely under the radar and stayed under the radar after the first season.

Also, for what it is and also acknowledging that it's a deeply flawed show with some bad moments (Donald Glover arc), it's well-written and acted a majority of the time.

I feel like people who watched Girls generally were pretty vocal about it being trash. I know a lot of people who watched it and they would all say "I watch it but you shouldn't because it's awful and super white" so.

Friends fans act like criticizing it should be a criminal offense.
