TBBT is definitely more overrated than GoT. At least GoT had a couple of good seasons. The second category fits it better.

One of my favorite comparisons I've heard was between TBBT and Arrested Development: "AD is smart jokes about stupid people, and TBBT is stupid jokes about smart people."

I'm friends with PhD recipient scientists. A lot of them don't like the show or find it that funny.

Yep all my physics friends say that the jokes make no sense because they just pick random physics theorems sounding words and mash them together. None of it actually mean anything, but the audience laughs because it's funny to laugh at nerds stereotypes, I guess.

When I was travelling I met and shortly lived with a woman who loved TBBT, and when it came on I let her know how terrible it is and she seemed surprised by my issues (stereotypes, sexism, repeat of jokes).

Worse - Peep Show then came on TV - and she was so stoic and didn't laugh at it at all. Had the gall to say it wasn't funny. PEEP SHOW.

I wasn't sure if it was a cultural thing (she was Austrian) and that the American humour was easier to understand but I couldn't help hold it against her despite how nice she was.

I think it's the opposite. Everyone kind of agrees that it was a bad show that got more viewers than it deserved. Game of Thrones was insanely critically acclaimed.

TBBT was nominated for and won a bunch of awards though even acting ones. It wasn't good enough for that imo. GoT actually lived up to the hype for the first few seasons.
