The funny thing about Don is that he was always loathsome, he just also became boring as time went on.

So tedious watching him deal with the exact same issues, season after season. I get that the show wanted to portray that growth and change are hard but there was no movement at all.

It was basically the same thing The Wire did with McNulty except the tedium/cyclical behavior was the point in The Wire in a way that never felt fully intentional with Mad Men.

I rewatched it somewhat recently and it def felt intentional to me. He's basically an emotional vulture who continuously cycles everything back into his work because he has no stable identity of his own and always needs source material.
