-The film "Center Stage" celebrated It's 20th anniversary this week. The film followed aspiring ballet students as they enter their first year at a prestigious ballet school.
-Amanda Schull("Suits" "12 Monkeys") starred in the film as Jody Sawyer. Schull was a real life ballet dancer, which helped as the director wanted dancers who could act. This was Zoe Saldana's first role in a film.
-Schull remembers how hard the rip away tutu scene was. Schull'We had a hard time getting that tutu off.You need to have momentum and strength pushing forward. But in order for the snaps to come loose , he would have to yank me backwards. And the way the tutu was built there was a series of mini snaps going around so it took a small army of people sitting there snapping me back up, which was very time consuming."
-The movie originally had Saldana's character's brother follow her to New york, where he would ultimily pass away. The funeral scene was shot, but cut out as it would give the film a darker tone going on and make it much longer.
-Schull is still close to the two male leads and is really proud of how far Saldana has gone.
-The movie, which spawned 2 direct to video sequels, has a television series in development.
Standing ovation for the cast and crew for two decades with these amazing characters and dazzling routines. But most of all, today we celebrate Jody Sawyer who had the feet ~and~ the heart! pic.twitter.com/u7Sv7wmcuD - Netflix (@netflix) May 12, 2020
