-Former "America's Next Top Model" contestant Dani Evans spoke out about renewed scrutiny of past "ANTM" moments, in particular , the time where Tyra and the panel asked her why she didn't get the gap in her teeth closed and if she really thought she could be a top model while having a gap in her teeth.
-Evans starts off by saying she was not going to speak of the incident from 15 years ago, but a message from model Slick Woods, who is known for her own gap, changed her mind. Evans says she doesn't want to defame anyone, she just wants to tell her truth.Evans was desperate to get out of her hometown and her brother said she should go out the show, she initially rebuffed the idea as it was"fake modeling" and they humiliate girls, but it was a way to get out of little rock Arkansas so she did it.
-Evans says the day all the girls were sent to the dentist she told them she just wanted them whitened. She says the dentist repeatedly asked her if she wanted the gap closed, but Evans says her mother had told her her gap was beautiful after Evans begged for braces as a child and Evans accepted that. When elimination time came, Evans says Banks asked why didn't she get her gap closed and looks off camera to a producer and Evans realized that Tyra wanted the gap closed. Evans says Banks told her would she get her gap closed if she sent her back to the dentist. Evans says she said if she didn't get the gap closed would she be sent home. This was all off camera and Evans says she thought of a compromise because she was laser focused on her goal and at the time her teeth were not a deal breaker.
-Evans says she was not concerned about the panels comments, but she was annoyed at the situation being played out for reality t.v. Evans says reading the comments made her understand the weight it may have carried for young girls that may have been watching and took the harsh words to heart. She says what matters is your self worth and it doesn't matter what anyone says and that no one can establish your self worth.
