If you have to have one, put it on a different network than one with all of your devices. Honestly, how many end users are going to know how to do that?

& change the passwords. Most of these things are built with ease of use in mind, not security. And the main company may be secure, but many people aren't changing those default passwords, and it's not hard at all to sniff out something broadcasting a signal, even if it's hidden.

Also, a lot of these devices will start off free...and then companies will suddenly start charging you. You don't have to pay, of course...but then your device isn't useable.

Truthfully, the only smart home thing I want are lights. Nothing else.

I do not understand why people bug their own houses, or own expensive devices that can be hacked or forced into obsolescence by their creators
