TBH I'm not too sad about it, I feel like Charlie Booker's writing has fallen off or maybe the truth is that the world is pretty dark so it's hard to imagine tech stories to make it darker.

i don't really know if it's on brooker, imo the switch to netflix and the increased episode count did the show in

Yup to both of these replies. The Netflix series lacked the bite of the originals.

Truth. I noticed that so many more of the characters were American/more stories were set in the USA

On one hand agreed and yet also San Junipero was Charlie deliberately including everything he knew he'd be criticized for going to Netflix

The reality is so much of tech is fucked up and dark, but the people developing it have tried to normalize or downplay that darkness so it doesn't bother the general public.

i feel like ever since politics have changed he’s been doing more happier/not as dark stories bc he suffers from anxiety and depression and now the world is so bleak anyway it’s difficult for him to write anything else. i feel like his statement now is proof of that, i know he’s said something similar in the past, where he couldn’t continue his weekly show bc he felt too shit with everything going on

plus the whole move to netflix and how netflix probably wants the episodes more mainstream

lol i just miss his columns. i was re-reading one of his old books and cry-laughing. he was always too bleak a television writer for me (see nathan barley, which basically ended with the main character being so disgusted with society and himself he attempted suicide).

The first couple Netflix seasons were okay, but the most recent one and the Bandersnatch movie were trash.
