following cause I’m curious too. all I found was this:

https://kaylarosenzines.wordpress.com/2016/12/06/black-mirrors-san-junipero-is-an-ableist-dystopia-in-disguise/

they talk about how Yorkie has no agency in the real world, and she opted to erase her disability in the virtual world. but she was in a coma for at least 40+ years, only because of her super religious/conservative parents. it doesn’t make sense for her to be in a coma in San Junipero too. she also has no memory of being elderly, cause again coma since 21(?), so it makes sense that she sees herself as 21.

I do agree with her point about no one else in san junipero being elderly or visibly disabled. though I wonder if there are other “cities” that have different demographics and accessibility, as I’d imagine not everyone wants to live in a party town.

honestly I would love to see an extension of this universe that includes some of the points you're making, it sounds like it could be good.

I am not fucking feeling this article and this kind of attitude kind of bothers me as someone who really and truly plans on having a trip to Oregon for a compassionate suicide if I get to a point where my suffering or functionality is too much for me to deal with. Yorkie wanted what she wanted and why should she have to take that baggage with her? Why should want to take her disability with her? God, if I were to live in a heavenly afterlife, I would not take my fucking MS and migraines with me ( ... )

apparently us disabled people are supposed to be so cheerfully in love with our disabilities that we're supposed to want to take them with us TO HEAVEN.

that's not representation, it's fucking condemnation, and the linked article had both me and my roommate ASTOUNDED. We both agreed there isn't much we wouldn't do in this world to get rid of the rotten disabilities that make our lives hell.

maybe for some disabled it's different because their lives suck less, I don't know, but fuck. that.
