- From 2015 and 2018, Chipotle Mexican Grill served "adulterated food that sickened more than 1,100 people" in its Los Angeles, Simi Valley, Boston, Virginia, and Ohio restaurants.

- One Chipotle restaurant failed to keep food such as lettuce and beans at proper temperatures and prevent the growth of Clostridium perfringens bacteria, which can cause abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea.

- Some store-level Chipotle employees felt pressured to continue working and handling food while sick or even after vomiting inside the restaurant, which ultimately led to multiple norovirus outbreaks.

- Chipotle responded in a statement: "This settlement represents an acknowledgment of how seriously Chipotle takes food safety every day and is an opportunity to definitively turn the page on past events and focus on serving our customers real food made with real ingredients that they can enjoy with confidence."
