I get the biggest kick out of it. Some years it's the same place. Some years I've had a great dinner at a steak house, and 2 days before I was in a coffee shop and overhead a single mom talking, and slipped her a hundred cash with a note wishing her a merry christmas and that i hope this helps. Some years I can't do it.
years ago, I was in a laundry mat days before Christmas. Someone came in while I was momentarily out of the room, and they put down a card next to stuff, I was the only one there. It was a sweet, card and 2 rolls of quarters. bb, I needed that 20 bucks in a way i hadn't in a long long time. I needed the money to do laundry. I didn't have it, and was going to do a single load and make it all stretch for a couple weeks. It was dire. I needed quarters for laundry.
This note of, "I don't know who you are, but I hope this helps you if you need it. If you don't, all I ask is you leave this for someone else. But if you do, I hope it helps. Merry Christmas." This became something I added in over the years where I could.
I'm not saying this to humble brag, please don't misunderstand me. I'm saying it because I agree with you. I would help so damn many people if I could. I get a kick out of being able to leave a big tip. I get a kick out of spending 10 bucks at Dennys and being able to tip my waitress 10 bucks. I don't understand that miser mentality. I'd be the person who left a hundred dollar tip, all the time, on my simple diner meals. I've done tiny stuff cause i have a tiny budget. i get a kick out of it for me.
and i throw out the laundry story because it shows the small ways we can help each other, as an idea for others. it would have never occurred to me to do that, until i was on the receiving end. and i needed it. this person had learned somehow, long ago, a lot of people just need a roll or two of quarters, to do laundry. i don't know who they were, but i've never forgotten them.
