This state doesn’t have the medical resources for any of this, by miles. Though somehow we scored a shit ton of masks. But they don’t have the beds, or the equipment. To give you an example to get certain biopsies I have to go to Seattle or Denver because there is no facility in the state that does them. We are taking routine ones, nothing highly sub specialty.
Medical in this state is a joke and it’s why I have been forced to doctor in Denver and the east coast, for yeeeeears.
I had to get treatment for the most basic, rudimentary asthma out of state.
Good luck rich folks, cause I get you think population wise it’s great to be here but if you get seriously ill, you had better odds in LA where they see weird shit and Respiratory diseases every single day. Where doctors are being trained round the clock on this.
As a cardio pulmonary patient with a Nero disease, I would rather take my chances with this in any major hospital on earth, with supply issues, than a place where there is no training and standard medical equipment hasn’t hit most hospitals. IE most hospitals here don’t have their own CT machines etc and it’s why we all drive to one of 5-6 cities!

I was fortunate that my cardio work up came back as it did this year, since yet another surgery was in question before it, because i keep thinking of how many people they've had to figure out how to handle surgically in a pandemic. as an aside, if your friend or anyone in the state needs a cardiologist, Dr. Joseph Apostle. Only doctor I have that has been backed up repeatedly in other states. this guy knows his shit in a way few do. Until China happened, he had a bad feeling, he's the guy who goes to conferences once a month, and is forever continuing his education. He's passionate about cardiology and has a thirst for knowledge I wish i could find in a neurologist lmao. He has had telemed set up for years to help his patients so they don't have to drive in the winter. That office has been amazing to me since this happened, and for years before. There are doctors i go to because i have to, and i'm forced to trust them with my life because i'm sick and they're a doctor. I trust that man with my life in every way. Only doctor i can say that for.
I'm lucky so to speak, that as sick as I am, and yeah I'm toast if i get it, but i can duck and cover. I have already had many sobbing session about those who can't, like your friend. you can't ignore dialysis. I thank you for your kind words, and from the bottom of my heart, I extend them and vibes, and prayers, and thoughts, and shit if i thought it would help I'd start rubbing crystals, for your friend. i can run and hide to hopefully improve my odds, he can't. my heart goes out to everyone in those situations. i'm so fortunate that as sick as I am, i get to stay home. everyone else has to stay home because there are people like your friend who can't, and would be dead without daily/ weekly treatment.

Let alone all the issues most southern states have with the health and race issues, the finances are just unreal. People don't realize health standards are different by location and if there is no money, there is no equipment, and no doctors. rural hospitals are going to take a beating. i know that everyone is, every hospital, but as much as the hospitals in NYC are being flooded, they have no idea how fortunate they are just because so much equipment they take for granted is right there. But we're all screwed to some degree. If this doesn't kick off M4A i swear to god.....
I hope you and your home folks are doing well.
