It's so sad that the family is splitting up. I mean, I get it! They have different goals. But one of the stories of the show was this family who barely knew each other having to actually get to know each other and care about each other and becoming important in each others lives. And now it's sad that they're scattering again

I think that Ted and Alexis's career goals just don't work together. Alexis has to be in a major city to do PR/publicist stuff. Ted wants to be studying animals in the Galapagos. It's not fair for either one of them to give up their goals.
