Everyone should be outright telling her she's an asshole. She should be blacklisted from the industry for her disregard of other people.

Some celebrities were photographed hiking in Runyon Canyon today in LA with their friends, no masks, no 6-foot separation. As if nothing was different. White women are gonna kill us all.

Given the mask shortage, I'm okay with the no mask thing. With proper distancing (or just staying the fuck at home) masks aren't necessary. Masks on Instagram is just gonna compound the mask shortage.

Given that people who are asymptomatic can give the virus to anyone they come in contact with, I'm good with everyone wearing a mask. You can easily make one yourself at home, you don't need an official one. People have to go out to get food and medicine, they can't always be in their home. And the grocery store clerks and others should definitely be wearing masks for their own protection.

Yes, I'm aware. And if we had a surplus of masks, then everyone should have them. But those in the most need: HCPs, clerks, service workers, those with pre-existing medical conditions, do not have them because the panic-buying public saw IG influencers and celebs buying them. And these same idiots are not going to make their own, they will go for the easiest option since they can afford to do that.

Look, we're on the same side. It's stupid they're out hiking en masse at all (THAT was who my stay home comment was directed at, not food and medicine obvs). But perpetuating 'everyone wear a mask' with such a dire shortage to those MOST in need will perpetuate the panic-buying and hoarding.

I'm aware of all that and I agree that it's stupid for them to go to the park as if nothing is happening. I'm also not advocating people buy or hoard masks meant for medical professionals.

We're making them out of old tee shirts and paper towels. This thing is going to go on for more than two weeks. The sooner everyone starts doing something pro-active, the better, afaic

Everyone wearing a mask helps stop the spread.

Unless someone is sick, they don't need to wear a mask. Save them for the healthcare workers who are actively caring for sick people.

You can make your own mask. There are patterns and videos online. Where I live everyone is wearing masks and gloves.

And I guess you aren't aware that you can have the virus, show no symptoms and give it to someone else. So yeah, people need to wear masks if they go outside.

800 people died yesterday in Italy, and the US has over 23,000 confirmed cases.

I'm a nurse. I'm perfectly aware you can be asymptomatic. We are talking about people using surgical masks that we need in the hospitals. I'm working in the trenches were we get allocated one mask per person per shift, regardless of the patients we are treating. We are also about to run out of gloves. We are getting temp checked as we enter the hospital. We are on visitor lockdown. No one enters unless they are visiting someone who is actively dying or giving birth. If people are making their own masks, fine but don't take it from some one who is literally getting coughed in the face by someone who has actually tested positive while treating them.

Is the shortage from people buying those supplies up? Or was this going to happen because we as a country just aren't prepared for something like this?

It's both.
