I hate choice feminism. There’s nothing empowering about the daughter of a billionaire choosing to subject herself to the porn industry/sex work. I resent people who actively make this choice as a way to empower themselves.
I know a lot of people who are the daughters of upper middle-class/rich parents who do sex work and wear it as a badge of honor when the truth of the matter is...they can get out of it relatively unscathed. They have the means to make it all go away and none of them really understand that.
i was in a facebook group where all these white women were going on about how amazing sex work was and how empowered they felt by cam work and one woman talked about how she appreciated having a mother who was a financial advisor to help her manage her income. it was fucking wild seeing how delusional these people were about how oppresive it is for poor women and women of color.
Yup. It’s fucking wild to see people I know irl talk about how ‘freeing’ sex work is. They hashtag everything like it’s some cutsey empowering movement. They think there is a difference between studio porn and buying porn directly from the maker. It’s insanity.
Oh god, one of the girls I know who runs around talking about all the sex work she does used to tell me she could say the n word b/c her black friends said she had a black ass. Her parents are sf rich and she acts like she is slumming it in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Manhattan. I am not kidding. My lily white self was mortified she told me this, out loud, when we were having lunch.
She also told me she understood what losing my dad felt like b/c she lost her cat. SIS.
there's nothing wrong with but it's not odd seeing people's reaction - she has the ultimate amount of resources so it's surprising but it also should show people that no matter how much $$$$ you have, trauma still affects people differently and ultimately people should have the freedom to live however they want
She’s choosing to work in a system that perpetuates the same abuse she suffered onto other people. Not all choices are good nor should they all be executed.
