Does anyone? Just kidding, I quit the show a few seasons ago but plan on catching up this year. I thought last season the ratings climbed again, guess not? Feels like the pop cultural moment of the show has passed.
I think/feel like people are surprised that it didn't crash and burn because of a female Doctor but didn't continue to support it because it's still DW. And maybe the regulars just aren't that vocal?
The ratings shot right up for last season and I think started at around 10 million, but then with season 12 they seem to have dropped really drastically to 3-4 million. My guess is that a lot of new viewers were interested in all the hype around the first female doctor, but that the writing couldn’t really keep invested enough to stick around.
Having three new companions AND a new Doctor was just too much, they clearly struggle to give everyone enough focus and the result is that Yaz has barely had anything to do.
I think this season is a lot better than last season but yesterday didn’t really work for me until the Cyberman showed up. I generally prefer the historical episodes to the space ones but I guess I didn’t find the Shelleys and Byron particularly compelling.
I wish they had focused more on Mary than Byron. I don't need to watch that fucker be all Hugh Grant disarming. I did however like the fact we got Byron AND Lovelace in the same season. That was a nice callback.
I always knew of the story about how a weekend of drugs and debauchery produced Mary Shelley's Frankenstein but fine, meeting the Doctor and being terrorized by a Cyberman, that works too lol
