"Sonic the Hedgehog" is surprising the box office with $64M+ opening over the 4-day Presidents Day weekend. With a projected $54M 3-day opening, it could beat Detective Pikachu's $54.3M opening to become the best opening for a video game adaptation.
Of the three other new releases, Fantasy Island (starring Lucy Hale and Maggie Q) and The Photograph (starting Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield) are looking at $13-14M opening, while Downhill (starting Will Ferrell and JLD) at $6M.
Meanwhile, Birds of Prey is looking at $20M over the 4- day weekend.
