Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, Jurnee Smolett-Bell, and Ella Jay Basco promote Birds of Prey

Summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]
Soundtrack is all female. Margot’s sporadic accent is distracting to me lol. MR wanted an all-girl gang on screen. Whoopi and Rosie have some love. RP explains how she became part of the film, given her age, and why she was drawn to her character. Jurnee talks about relating to her character, and talks about researching her character. JS quotes Alice Walker, and felt she (her character) needed to be emancipated from herself. Ella is in her first film. Talks about how her casting came about, and when-how she knew she wanted to be an actor.

Cast talks about training to do a lot of their own stunts. [Sunny is playing up this part, wondering how much the stuntwomen looked like the actresses, and the look Whoopi gives her looool forever]. RP character is the first gay character in DC film universe. JS was first on original Full House. JS talks about how the industry has changed, relishing an R rated comic book girl gang film. RP is asked about testifying on behalf of Annabella Scioria against Harvey Weinstein. RP chokes up. Says she’s not legally able to talk about an ongoing case, but says when a friend needs you, you show up. The other actresses are supportive of her. Reads legal note. Sunny brings up MR Oscar nomination. Meghan makes it about her because of course. MR talks about people’s reaction to her role. Feels like the biggest reward is when men have watched it and get what women are going through. Cast talks about the costumes they wore, in relation to all the pearl clutching over what women are wearing (like SB Half Time).

Real Iowa Winner: Bloomberg, who didn’t spend one minute or one penny on this catastrophe.

Idc who wins or how it ranks but I won’t trust the results now, regardless.

Overall summary: Cancel Iowa caucus forever, good grief. Neither Iowa nor NH are representative of the electorate, or the Democratic party, both are 90-95% white. And Iowa voter turnout only close to 2016, but because it’s a caucus not a primary, it gives a mixed message on who voters really want, and whether they’ll be enthusiastic in the general. Eg, People can’t be bothered to go sit in a gym and raise hand and debate, vs how much easier and precise it is to show up at a voting booth, vote, then leave.

First time he’ll see Pelosi since she took him down in that iconic photo. Schiff and all the House Managers will also be front and center. Joy thinks he’ll be freaked out. Sunny wonders if he’ll reference impeachment. Sunny thinks he’ll mention economy and Soleimani, but she wants him to talk about incomplete border wall, the wall that fell, there are kids still in cages, that they want to cut Medicare and Medicaid again.

You can read more about Doris Miller here

Doris "Dorie" Miller was an American sailor in the United States Navy. He manned anti-aircraft guns during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 for which he had no training and tended to the wounded. He was recognized by the Navy for his actions and awarded the Navy Cross. He was the first black American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the third highest honor awarded by the Navy at the time, after the Medal of Honor and the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. The Navy Cross now precedes the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. Miller's acts were heavily publicized in the black press, making him an iconic emblem of the war for black Americans. Nearly two years after Pearl Harbor, he was killed in action when his ship Liscome Bay was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the Battle of Makin. On January 19, 2020, the Navy announced that CVN-81 would be named after him, a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier scheduled to be laid down in 2023 and launched in 2028.
