honestly its just tradition here in england. all characters that could fit the catagory for panto dame are played by a man.......because lbr men are a joke

I get panto is a thing but the movie isn't panto or even British, and it's a really bad idea to be carrying over this particular idea to it.

the characters are british tho only the old movie made it american. a LOT of characters like trunchbull are heavily influenced by panto as are other characters like edna turnblad and stuff.

...yeah but British or American, Trunchbull in the book is female. There's literally nothing saying panto ideas are the OG source here, and no reason to be importing panto-style casting into something that isn't a panto.

the musical and the book are very different tho. most of the time im not here for men playing women but this is one of the cases were it is just the culture here. its not just panto that does it its been done throughout history same with characters like peter pan always benig a woman

All professional productions had a man play Miss Trunchbull IIRC but local and amateur productions are allowed to cast women in the role
