my aunt and uncle started calling each other mommy and daddy for their children's sakes but now their kids are both grown up and they still do it and it really throws me every time i haven't seen them in a while.

i assume that's what's happening here.

Idk if it’s because of being raised in a Hispanic setting, but this doesn’t seem so weird to me, as most of my family would call their SOs and everyone else “mami” or “papi”. 🤷🏻‍♂️

My parents call each other "Mom" and "Dad" all the time (as do my relatives) (I mean, those who have children, that is). It's a carry over from them calling each other that to teach my siblings and I how to call them.

The next most used term of endearment they use for each other is "Dear"/"Darling".
