A24 is already set to release Zola in North America later this year, but now Sony has picked up the worldwide distribution rights for the Sundance premiere from Janicza Bravo. The film is based on a viral tweet thread, and seems fairly divisive among those who've seen it at Sundance.

Sundance premiere Palm Springs is looking at a $15 million worldwide deal with Neon and Hulu. The crowd-pleasing romantic comedy starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Miliotti has been one of the in-demand titles at the festival.

Amazon Studios has bought the rights to Alan Ball's family drama Uncle Frank, starring Sophia Lillis and Paul Bettany, which has received lukewarm reviews. They've also bought the rights to Irish drama Herself.

PBS POV has acquired the Kenyan documentary Softie, directed by Sam Soko, about a political activist running for office to fight injustice in Kenya. It premiered in the World Documentary Cinema competition at Sundance, and will air during the next season of POV, which starts in June.

Searchlight (fka as Fox Searchlight) has bought the worldwide rights for David Bruckner's thriller The Night House, starring Rebecca Hall, Sarah Goldberg, Stacy Martin, Evan Jonigkeit, and Vondie Curtis-Hall.

In acquistion news not related to Sundance, Neon has bought Ammonite, the romantic drama directed by Francis Lee (God's Own Country) and starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan. No release date noted as of yet, but with Neon concentrating on Parasite promo, I'm sure we'll hear more once this year's award season has come to an end.
