I would think it would be an automatic dismissal if you knew the person/victims?

yeah, probably. for sexual assault cases they often dismiss anyone who has ever been assaulted or know anyone who has been assaulted as well :\

Yes, they absolutely do. I was almost involved in a case when I was called for jury duty and the lawyers handed out a questionnaire asking all of us if we have ever been or knew anyone close to us who was sexually assaulted. I was dumb and lied about both (because I didn’t feel comfortable disclosing that information to random people) so they didn’t dismiss me but they dismissed a whole lot of other women :(

Oh man the state's attorney wanted to dismiss anyone who had been cheated on in the case I was a juror on. Too bad for her every hand in the audience went up and then the judge said the question was disallowed lol.

eh, potentially. I was a juror on a case that involved sexual assault of a minor by her grandfather. I stood up and said I have strong feelings regarding this situation because my cousin was sexually assaulted by our uncle. And I was still picked to be on the jury. *shrug*

The fact that she is close friends with one of the victims will probably throw her out immediately

Yes, absolutely. Nobody who is a friend of the complainant could ever be on a jury trying the case, anymore than Weinstein's brother Bob can be.

It absolutely would. I was almost a juror for a sexual assault case (it was a goddamn mess and I’m glad I didn’t have to do it) and they were interviewing the potential jurors and making sure they didn’t personally know any of the people involved in the case.

In my country you’re given a list of all parties involved in the case, including police officers and witnesses, and if you recognise any of the names you’re dismissed.

Yeah, it should be??

I was a juror on a sexual assault/kidnapping case and they were knocking people off for any reason, from being in the same industry as the defendant (in case their companies worked together), to anyone that worked with a company/non profit that worked with the big refugee relocation ngo in the city (bc the victims were refugees).

This seems very odd. And it also means that she must have nothing lined up because you can only do trials like this if you don't have any conflicts for at least a few weeks.

It probably is. I will be shocked if they don't.

My dad was dismissed from a jury for knowing law (has a JD, passed the bar exam but does not practice) because they did not want a lawyer on the jury.

Yeah when I had jury duty they had the defendant stand up and face us so we could say if we knew her or not.
