i wanna say it's up in the air but watch the academy just be like meh give it to the irishman

Nah The Irishman is WAY too slow paced & thoughtful for academy members. maybe if it was just a recreation of Scorsese’s earlier mob movies the academy would love it but it is very aggressively not.

i guarantee a lot of the upcoming ~anonymous oscar ballots~ will be full of people whining about how “The Irishman I couldnt finish it was so BORING”

maybe, but then what's left? i honestly can't see parasite winning, the academy's just too antiquated for that. ugh watch it be marriage story sigh

I wouldn’t be surprised if Once upon in Hollywood gets Best Pic.

But I will be so mad at Oscars for rewarding self obsessed and self center flick like Once.

I think it’s going to win too and I also think it was mediocre at best. Hollywood is self obsessed though.

Prayer circle that Once..Hollywood won't win and Parasite gets Best Pic, Best Director.

I feel like that could be the ~consensus~ choice too which is so disappointing in a year so many good movies came out

I genuinely think Parasite has a great shot, especially after SAG nom.

People comparing it to Roma are wrong imo. Parasite is 1000 times more enjoyable to watch & its untainted by bias against Netflix.

I mean yea this is the voting body that gave it to Green Book but they’re also the voting body that gave it to Moonlight (!!!!). BONGHIVE STAY STRONG 💪

Actors make up a fraction of Academy voters. I haven't checked the stats, but I'm not sure a SAG win is indicative of anything for the Oscars.

I'd bet on OUATIH taking Best Picture, based on their track record.

fraction? actors make up nearly a quarter of oscar voters - by far the academy’s largest voting block. thats why its so rare for a BP winner to not at least be nominated for best ensemble at SAG.

Parasite is the first foreign nomination in that category since 1997. people are really underestimating its shot at BP.

Yeah, less than 25 percent is a fraction of 100. Not close to a majority.

I'm not saying I want OUATIH to win, I'm saying it has a far better chance than Parasite, given the voting history of the Academy and the fact that SAG noms are not a good indicator of Oscar winners. SAG puts the emphasis on actors, not directors, screenplay, etc.

sorry, i wasnt trying to be rude - i know you’re not saying OUATIH should win.

my point was that 22 percent is statistically significant enough for SAG to be a consistently good predictor of Best Picture. Roma was considered the front runner all last year and but it not getting a SAG ensemble nom changed that, for good reason.

and I dont agree that OUATIH has a far better chance when you consider the preferential ballot. OUATIH has plenty of fans but there are also people who hate it and will put it dead last out of spite.. like people did with La La Land. Parasite is more like Moonlight in that lots of people love it, nobody seems to hate it, & it will be a LOT of people’s number 2 pick.

Yeah, I know you're not trying to be rude either. But who are these mythical Academy members who hate OUATIH? The Academy has a long history of loving movies about Hollywood movies. And we both know they love nominating Leo and Brad, and Tarentino for that matter.

Ive read/heard reports from film journalists covering academy screenings etc that while OUAT is very popular, it and The Irishman both have their detractors whereas Parasite seems to be more of a consensus pick.
