i bought my bf 4 thoughtful gifts because he's all into christmas . but i honestly (puts on holiday armor) cannot stand christmas. i just dgaf about holidays (besides halloween) in general , just due to the commercialization of it all. if i see something that reminds me of someone, be it big or small throughout the year (within reason obviously) i buy it. i like making those close to me surprised when they're not expected, and it drives me nuts that so many people go into debt because of christmas, or feel guilty because they couldn't buy their kids certain things on one damn day. i do realize people get time off work and can go see their families and such, (reasons why i work every holiday because it's selfish for me to take time off when my family is 2 hours away in palm springs) so that i do like about it, but everything else i'm just a scrooge about. i feel guilty sometimes because so many people get joy from it, but that's just my take . don't hate me my ontd fam :(

i haaaate xmas purely for the expectations of buying all that shit. the only good part is getting that extra unpaid day off from work to spend time with your loved ones.

i honestly buy gifts all year round for my child, my mother, helped my sister afford a car, helped my other sister pay to get her car fixed, helped my baby's father fix and insure his car, paid extravagant babysitting fees to my other sister, gifted my brother with baby shower gifts not 2 months ago, just got another sister a job with my company on recommendation ($25/40-hour and benefits, plus commission), and took my family and friend out countless times to amusement parks, movie theatres, and out to eat all in one year. i'm good.

Co-signing hating Christmas. My husband’s family goes over the top and I’ve yet to go to their house for Christmas bc I’m scared. And it’s so wasteful. He even said that when he went back home there was a bunch of unused gifts sitting in the junk room from a few years back. Hell, I gave his mom a $50 GC once and I know she never used it. I’d looove to get that $50 back!

i liked it better when you didn't get railed with Christmas lights since november. when there actually was a sense of anticipation and something you could look forward to and not something you couldn't avoid as soon as halloween was done.

or maybe i'm just getting older. at least this year was nice.

i've been bleh about christmas for a few years now since my parents began to fly frequently to their homeland (after not having been able to for over 25 years) for the xmas and new year's, so my sister and i would spend the holidays pretty much alone or if not at a friend's house. it isn't the same. now that my mom passed away (2 years ago), my dad's gone back to the homeland to live there for GOOD, and i've moved to another state, the holidays are just the most painful thing for me. i hate them, i hate pretending that i'm happy around others with their family, i hate that i can't even summon up actual joy for others around me because i'm so morbidly sad about my family being split or torn apart, pick your choice. so yes...fuck christmas.

I’m right there with you. I do think that holidays really are for families, especially ones with small kids. The holidays are always thought for me. Don’t get me wrong I have great friends but they are all married with little kids so they do their own thing. I usually see my little sister, nephews, and mom because we live close but it’s still different.

Can your dad afford to fly you and your sister out there for the holidays? Or split the cost maybe?

I only like Christmas for the lights and the online sales on Black Friday and Boxing Day. Otherwise my fam don’t celebrate.

Like today we are literally all lying in our own rooms doing nothing.

I get hyped up for Christmas around November, but I end up feeling anxious and exhausted by the time it finally rolls around.
