December 22, 2019 The Morning Show wrapped its first season on Friday and whew what a mess.
Showrunner Kerry Ehrin talked to THR about it all:

I was spoiled by Hannah's death but I was surprised to see so many people labelling it a straight up suicide because it definitely seemed accidental to me (though even if it's accidental it's pretty clear her struggles with substance abuse began as a coping mechanism after her rape). Also queen Gugu herself agrees with me and said her own personal acting choice was that it was accident and Hannah was preparing to move forward.
The death was such a dumb cliché but aside from that I enjoyed the show and the finale despite how uneven it's been. Jennifer Aniston was best in show.
I like the ensemble cast but it could do with a lot more pruning. Like Carrell should be gone, his character has outlived his usefulness and they could easily make Fred and/or Corey and Chip (who were involved in taking him down but who had very selfish and impure motives) the villains of season 2. I also with they would get rid of Claire/Yanko because all their scenes are creepy and uncomfortable. I was so happy when Claire decided that his old weather-obsessed ass was too embarrassing to date publicly. If she ends back with him because of Hannah's death I will be so annoyed.

The only person I believe Cory really cares about aside from himself is Bradley who he is weirdly obsessed by. I still want to know wtf is going on with them. I can't tell if he actually cares about her or if he's just excited by what she means for the show.
It's weird that people think Chip was a hero. Like they literally explained his prime motive of going forward with the interview was hoping it would be explosive enough so Fred could be fired and he would be re-hired. He def isn't a straight up villain and I do believe he was uncomfortable with Mitch and he did try to protect the women who worked on the show, but even in his voicemail to Alex he came forward not to protect the women but to protect Alex who he was friends with but who was also easier for him to work with.

He goes into this long baseball analogy and I forget the exact wording but he's like "Sometimes you give a player you know is a failure a chance so the scout who was pushing him can see that they made the wrong choice" only meaner. To me it seemed like a direct hit at that producer.

I always thought it was clear he loved Alex, but as a friend and colleague. I really don't want the show to hook them up (lol how funny is it that he loves her and she so clearly knifed him though? Gotta be a big hit to the ego.)

I wish they dragged out Alex vs. Everyone more because that was more interesting than the weird quick fix of the finale. I think it made her a more interesting character to explore, but that kind of messiness is something I don’t think the show has the range for.
