okay so this show looks cool and it's apparently based on the books and not the game. I want to ask who here has read the books and do you like them?

I was leafing through The Last Wish this weekend and the first chapter (or the prologue, idk), is just a random beautiful nymph appearing out of nowhere to have sex with Geralt. like, that's the chapter lmao. I hope that's not indicative of the book as a whole?

The first two books are collections of short stories. The first book has a sort of framing story in between each short story (Geralt has been badly injured and is recovering at a temple) and lmao yes the first bit setting that up is a novice coming into his room to have sex with him.

It’s not representative of the series as a whole.

The books are really good! They're dark and funny and have a lot of Eastern European folklore influence in them. (Author is Polish)

The short stories were published first and are geralt centric.
You don't have to read the short stories to read the novels and vice versa

Iirc the novels precede the short stories in the witcher timeline
