didn't that Biggest Loser show end up doing a lot of harm to its contestants?
Jillian has her own personal feelings and relationship with weight and how she became famous that she would have a hard time with the body positivity movement
anyway, anyone who uses the words "politically correct" unironically is a moron
people died because of the show. people ended up with eating disorders and fucked their health for years. you had doctors who had a shit fit about it and kept warning that people would die, and they did.
i gotta go find the article that listed everyone whose died. you've had a couple heart attacks. it's after the show deaths which they deflect. but i've seen doctors who've gone, you can't lose that much weight that fast and not tax a heart. it's too extreme. the problem is the guy who died earlier this year from leukemia and no i'm not saying the show gave him cancer, but thanks to googles shitty algorithm he's all that pops up for pages.
and i know Kai has talked about it all before on her blog. idk if it's still around.
and a few contestants have told how they were given diet pills and all kinds of crap. lemme go dig.
reality shows tend to be enough of a nightmare behind the scenes that we don't have to add weight loss competitions to it. I never watched Biggest Loser but I was guilty of most things Celebreality and watched Celebrity Fit Club. But iirc the weight loss wasn't nearly so extreme on that show
anyway, I'm so glad the '00s are over and we're understanding weight better. good god, go through the documentary section on HBO and it's like an A-Z of SCARY FAT AMERICANS docs.
I couldn't watch the show because of how dangerous it was. Like I'd rather watch people swim with sharks without cages than people with varying health problems being screamed at to keep going on a treadmill for hours upon hours.
Doctors have been saying that more than two pounds a week is too much. Yeah the first couple weeks it's usually water weight so it's more in that aspect but once you get that water weight off, 2 pounds a week.
I go to one of them. I've lost 74 lbs since August. I was seeing him weekly, but I've since "graduated" to less frequent visits. I get blood work drawn every month to make sure my body is handling the weight loss well.
When you're obese and your insurance won't cover gastric bypass, sometimes you don't have other options.

I know how marginal some doctors can be so I'm extra skeptical when it's extreme stuff.
I mean there are doctors who will back a lot of questionable stuff. There are doctors who have pain pill mills after all :(
