I feel like DC is really trying hard to get a cast for their superhero universe that will compete with Marvel and they just keep falling short. Idk if it's something like the actors are big names and so people are just kind of "meh" about seeing them or what. I feel like most of the Marvel leads weren't hugely popular before the movies whereas with DC many of them are big names.

Joaquin is someone Marvel chased after hard for years and DC landed him instead, but honestly I think the appeal for him (and maybe other stars who have not been swayed by Marvel) was that he was only supposed to do one and that it was ~artsy~, but with Marvel you have to sign on for like five movies minimum and they don't make r-rated films

He was one of the first choices to replace Edward Norton back when they were recasting Bruce Banner, and they really wanted him to be Doctor Strange. Supposedly he was interested in Doctor Strange but hated the idea of committing to a lot of sequels and crossovers. Don’t know how he feels about a Joker sequel tho

I couldn't see him as either of those characters. I'm glad they actually recast Hulk because I can't stand Ed Norton and I think they did great bringing Mark into the role. He's a much better choice. I'm not a huge Benedict fan either but from what I've seen(granted I haven't seen his Doctor Strange movie what I have seen is him in Ragnarok and the last two Avengers movies) I think he was a good choice in casting.

I think Marvel has done a pretty good job with their casting...with the exception of Ed Norton and like I said thank god they recast.

Thanks for the info I didn't know any of that! I love the Marvel universe but I can't exactly blame him for not wanting to sign on for that many projects lumped together. That's a lot.

I think he did make the right choice for Joker.

That's true. Their timeline is sort of all over the place it would be hard at this point to bring them together.

First of all, this story is total rumor, based on the fact that The Joker made so much money. It was always supposed to be a one-off, not some kind of franchise.

There is no grand plan at DC to get their superhero universe together to compete. Even if this second Joker movie ever gets made, it won't be part of DC's new Batman relaunch.

The only plan they have is to restart Batman and then spin off the characters/villains into their own franchises, the way they did with Harley Quinn. Catwoman would get her own movie, the Riddler, etc.

I mean, they did do the Justice League so at some point they did have that plan. Unfortunately it didn't pan out the way I think they had hoped.

I think making Joker a one-off movie would have been the best bet though. I haven't seen the new one but I'm going to when I get the chance.

How many years ago was JL greenlit? It seems like they did have a plan back then, but when JL bombed, they scrapped that plan and decided to start over. Reeves has been working on his script for The Batman for the past two years.

I think the Joker being as huge as it is was a big surprise. They weren't prepared. It's also got places like We Got This Covered just making up stories out of thin air.

I'm honestly not sure when it was. But they do seem to keep "trying over" and I can't figure out why. Is it because they want it to be as big as Marvel or do they just enjoy making the same movies over and over again?

I'm not sure why they would be surprised with the Joker story being a hit. The Joker character was HUGE when being played by Heath, people loved that character. So it's no surprise that an entire movie about him would do well.
