Indie Film Release Guide: November 27th [An ONTD Original]

Happy Thanksgiving! This holiday weekend, Universal’s Queen & Slim is the only major studio release coming to theaters. Of course it will have to contend with the second weekend of Disney’s Frozen sequel, and the first full weekend for Lionsgate’s Knives Out, which is also in wide release. Some of these films open Wednesday night, but others don’t open until Friday, so check your local listings before you head out to the theater.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia/Sony and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. What you should know: Filmed in Canada and premiered at TIFF.

What you should know: Pope Benedict XVI is the first pope in almost 600 years who became "pope emeritus" (pope retired) after resigning.

What you should know: The film screened at Tribeca and the AFI Docs Festival.
