In 2011, Emilia suffered an unlikely  brain hemorrhage that caused her to lose her ability to process or express speech. Her long road to recovery included three surgeries and  lots of rehabilitation. In this interview with brain expert, researcher, and president of  Bennet Omalu Pathology Dr. Bennet Omalu, Emilia recounted her  hospitalization and recovery, an experience that led her to found SameYou to help increase neuro-rehabilitation access. For Emilia it was one  thing to leave the hospital, but another to manage the rehabilitation  process. “I wanted to disappear,” said Emilia. “No one in that situation  has 100% confidence.”

“Emilia is making a difference with her story.” - Dr. Bennet Omalu

“Emilia beat death. how did you do it?” Dr. Bennet Omalu

- 1 in 3 people will suffer a brain injury in their lifetime

- "I was raised to never say ‘poor me’ - I’m just pathologically  hopeful. I put so much into that; when the crunch time came, it just  wasn’t an option to not fight for it. It’s the fight part in me that is  probably the strongest. It’s the appetite for life, at the crunch time  it comes out to be stronger.” - Emilia Clarke, Actor and Founder, SameYou"

- "If you break your leg, at least you’re aware that that part of your  body needs to be protected. But with your mind, that takes care of  everything, then there’s no part of you that doesn’t need to be  protected, that doesn’t need to be held close. If you’re not supported  in the process, you’ve got nothing. It’s incredibly frightening. That  was my biggest recovery process - navigating my way through.” - Emilia Clarke, Actor and Founder, SameYou

- “I fought with every fiber of my being, there was nothing to lose and life to gain” Emilia Clarke, Actor and Founder, SameYou

"your brain that's the one thing that makes you uniquely you" Emilia Clarke, Actor and Founder, SameYou

Dr. Bennet Omalu remarked that Emilia overcame her fear and channeled the  experience to make a difference for others. “It takes only one person to empower another human being, you’ll empower yourself,”
