Baby Yoda may have just appeared on The Mandalorian, but has already become a television icon. The new character even made co-star Werner Herzog cry on set when he saw it: “I have seen it on the set. I’ve seen it on the set. And it’s heartbreaking! It’s heartbreakingly beautiful. It made you cry when you saw it.”

This reaction is all the more pure, because Herzog has seen not seen a Star Wars, and is probably unaware of the bigger reaction audiences would have to the character. He also called the techs operating the character a "phenomenal technological achievement."

Herzog's character on the show tasks The Mandalorian with bringing back a 50-year old target, who turns out to be an infant member of the same -- and still unknown -- species as Yoda.

Episode 3 of The Mandalorian will be released on Disney+ this Friday.
