My Chemical Romance News Roundup!

Did any of us ever think that would be a headline again?

In the wake of the sudden Halloween announcement of their reunion, MCR have stayed pretty quiet. Rumors are flying, more shows have been announced, and in general it's been some total chaos. There's endless speculations being thrown around, so let's just stick to what we know! (officially)

As everyone by now knows, their first show back together as a band is scheduled for December 20th in Los Angeles. It sold out in minutes (to the literal surprise of no one.)

Fans have been pretty upset, as the site seemed to have a ton of issues when it came to processing payments and such. Many fans who got through kept getting "payment errors" even with cards/paypal being correct. Others are (rightfully) pissed because AXS (the official ticket seller) is selling "premium" tickets (aka scalping) for about $2500 a pair. Many people have gotten desperate enough to pay these ludicrous prices, while others have taken to calling out the band for exploiting the fans.

As of now no additional LA shows have been annouced.

What HAS been announced however is some festival performances (Japan, Melbourne, Sydney), and another one off show in New Zealand with Jimmy Eat World and Miss June as the openers:

Speaking of openers, MCR recently announced that Thursday will be opening for them at their LA show!

For those that don't know, Thursday and MCR have been friends since the bands inception. Geoff Rickley (lead singer of Thursday) was the producer of MCR's first album. Having them be the opener for their long awaited return is pretty special and significant <3

Incidentally, Thursday has announced a couple of extra SoCal shows for the surrounding dates of their MCR gig, one if which will include a special guest (Chris Conley of Saves the Day:)

Earlier today, all of the MCR social media pages uploaded this photo (that was taken on OP's birthday!! <3) of them at a recent practice session:

This is the first photo of them all photographed together since 2017 when they all attended a show for guitarist Frank Iero's band.

Noticably missing is a drummer though yes? Fear not!

My Chem's label rep confirmed to me that Jarrod Alexander will be the band's drummer for the reunion. (This is maybe news?) Pre-breakup, he'd been their most recent of several touring drummers after Bob Bryar left in 2010. Anyway I updated this: https://t.co/BZPBKyumhD

Jarrod Alexander was the last of a long list of drummers that MCR had before their breakup.

No word yet on whether or not James Dewees will be joining them again as keyboardist.

Country Singer Ruston Kelly aka Mr. Kacey Musgraves (apparently) released an ep of "emo" covers last month titled "Dirt Emo: Vol. 1". Among them (which includes a cover of "Screaming Infidelities" by Dashboard Confessional with Chris Carrabba himself) was a cover of "Helena" by My Chemical Romance. "Helena" is the only song on the EP that wasn't covered in it's entirety. Instead, Kelly chose to only record the first verse and chorus.

When asked why he chose to do this, he had this to say:

"That song is ultra-haunting. Again, going back to it's melodic foundation, it's just really incredible. It's beautiful. And I just felt like capturing a small portion of it. The first chorus of it was enough to give a dose of how creepy it was. Or how haunting that melody is, and to let it hang and also just say "so long and goodnight" unexpectedly. It's pretty emo, I think."
