I remember when lyric videos were big. They’re still around but labels would put a lot of effort into some of them lmao.

I've always thought lyric videos became big because, after the death of music videos on TV but before Youtube really became the main way a lot of people consume new music, big budget music videos were no longer worth the money to make so they put a tiny percentage of that into really cool lyric videos and called it a day. But then Youtube got huge as a music streaming platform, which brought back high budget videos and made lyric videos another way to get streams but probably not worth the money or effort for them to be anything but basic
